TECH PREP NARRATIVE

Tech Prep is extremely important to Kentucky. Rapid advances in technology in the workplace have brought about significant changes in the competencies needed by the labor force. Employers are demanding workers who can apply higher math and science skills necessary for technical careers. Tech Prep programs prepare people with advanced academic/technical education for the ever-changing demands of the workplace. The following is a list of Tech Prep benefits to Kentucky's educational system.

Tech Prep:

  • Provides a coherent sequence of academic-technical courses within secondary and postsecondary education without duplication.
  • Raises the expectations and standards of students.
  • Uses educational technology and distances learning to involve secondary and postsecondary partners to improve Tech Prep program.
  • Addresses the issue of school dropout prevention.
    Restructures academic-technical curriculum to encourage more rigorous academic and technical preparation.
  • Provides a comprehensive career guidance program that includes planning and assessment for secondary and postsecondary students, as well as, placement upon program completion into additional education and/or employment.
  • Provides transferable skills in using computers and other modern technologies, as well as, workplace readiness skills.
  • Reinforces technical education and academic teacher collaboration.
    Articulation between secondary and postsecondary.
