The Office of Career and Technical Education (OCTE) was designated to manage program assessment for secondary technical programs by a 2000 legislative initiative.  The stakeholder developed a process and a 21-standard document by which to assessment the CTE programs.  The document has been revised every two years to begin a new 2-year cycle of assessment team visits.  During the first cycle of visits (2001-2005) assessment teams reviewed 86 schools with 375 programs.  During the 2007-2009 cycle, 91 schools and 533 programs were visited.
The findings of the assessment teams are entered into a database and are (1) shared with the schools for their use in developing program and school continuous improvement plans; (2) the major support for SACS accreditation; (3) used for the development of the OCTE district continuous improvement plan and (4) used to provide professional development for teachers and administrators.
A detailed overview of the program assessment process is available at Program Assessment Overview.  The web address below links teachers and principals to resources that will assist them in the program assessment process.
