The Office of Career and Technical Education (OCTE) was designated to manage program assessment for secondary technical programs by a 2000 legislative initiative.  During the first cycle of visits (2001-2005), assessment teams, using a 21-standard document developed by the stakeholders, reviewed 86 schools with 375 programs.  The findings of the assessment teams were shared with the schools for their use in developing program and school improvement plans.

The second cycle of assessment team visits (2005-2007) was completed at the end of the 2006-2007 school year.  Program assessment data was used as the major support for SACS accreditation and for the development of the OCTE district continuous improvement plan.

As the quality of programs available to students continues to improve, the expectations of the assessment teams continue to climb.  Therefore, a revised 17-standard assessment document will be used for the third cycle of assessment team visits (2007-2009).

A detailed overview of the program assessment process is available at Program Assessment Overview.  The web address below links teachers and principals to resources that will assist them in the program assessment process.
